Glenn Patrik – Nuthin But A Thang

Music Reviewed by Bill Messick

This music can rock just fine and with a sweet blues style that kept pace with my usual hard and fast music taste!

Now I’m not usually a blues man, I like my rock and roll but after spending a few days with the Glenn Patrik CD “Nuthin But A Thang” playing in my car and on my iPod I think I have had a change of heart. This music can rock just fine and with a sweet blues style that kept pace with my usual hard and fast music taste! I gave this CD a full workout taking it with me trail running and mountain biking to see if it could keep up and I wasn’t disappointed at all, this music has long legs. There are 11 tracks that span this CD with a bold yet graceful rhythm that kept my interest peaked. Each song has it’s very own sound to offer with a bright and solid rhythm drumming you into a place that will get your feet moving under your rear.

With that said let’s get to the meat of the CD, the first song “Don’t Call Me Daddy” is a classic blues song with a swinging fun rhythm that made me want to get up and do a jig. “Don’tcha Know” the second song took a softer note, showing off Glenn Patrik’s vocal range with a sexy tune backed by a great keyboard riff. The 3rd song “Kansas City” was more sophisticated in it’s approach with a powerful mix of melody and mythic blues that made me want to visit Kansas City and I don’t like Kansas! “The Bossman” the 4th track is a classic example of singing the blues with it’s ups and downs that mix into some great lyrics, perfect for a down on your luck sort of guy. The next song “One More Day” is an acoustical blues song that hit on the working man’s woes, nice little jam. Moving right into track 6 “4 PM Blues” picks the pace back up to a hip swinging haze that will have your head bobbing up and down. “Too Blessed To Be Depressed” track 7 was one of my favorite songs on this CD, with it’s happy go lucky style that made me feel much better about my problems. Track 8 “Thang Thang” is a blues jive with soulful brass and horns mixed with a fast and fun paced song. “Friend Of Mine” track 9 gave off a very retro vib that had me thinking it was a remake of an old 70’s song, if it was Glenn Patrik made it his own! Track 10 “Last Night” is an instrumental song with that chilling in the night club feel going on, backed by some pretty impressive keyboard moves. Track 11 “Other Side Of Town” was a bluesy rock mix with a sweet rhythm and blues sound, I liked the guitar singing its sticky sweet notes in my ears.

I gave this CD 5 stars and would recommend it to anyone that likes there rock and roll blue.

Michele Vreeland - Never Not Myself

Music reviewed by Bill Messick

Her sound is bright and free flowing and backed by some very good song writing, with all that going for you it’s only a matter of time before her star takes off bright as hell.

Michele Vreeland is positively sweet stuff, this California born songstress not only has the face to sell music but her sound is in the right place. She has been compared to Jewel and Sarah McLachlan and I tend to agree but with a little Sheryl Crow tossed in. Her sound is bright and free flowing and backed by some very good song writing, with all that going for you it’s only a matter of time before her star takes off bright as hell.

She bouts herself as a pop artist but in her music I hear a well crafted blend of rock with hints of country, she has the very unique ability to cross the borders of genre. That makes her very powerful as an artist she can play to a much bigger crowd than most. Her 7 song EP brings to light her soft side yet keeps you reminded that she can rock.

The first song “Wanted To Say” has a country sound to it at first but quickly moves into a pop rhythm with a very pleasing chores that is catchy. The second song “I’m A Person” is a bit folk in it’s sound but in her own style she moves it out of that with a strong message of indifference. The third song “L.A. Dream” is very light and shows off her vocal range with some impressive highs but soon has you swaying to her rock side, I think L.A. would be nice after hearing this. “Want More” the forth song is her love song, you can tell she loves signing this well put together track, very well done! The fifth song “Who I Am” has a pop rock sound with a good flow around each of the genre elements that reminded me a little of Joan Jett for just a second, strange! “Nico” the sixth song is all pop about a punk rock girl from the hills, it is a faster song that works you up into happy mood. The seventh and last song “Understanding” has it’s base set in a country tone to it but still not all country, this is a good mix of genre on this song and did not let me down at about 1:30 into the song she picks it up and takes it to a completely different place, reminded me of a movie soundtrack.

I gave Michele Vreeland 5 stars and would recommend her music to anyone not wanting to be stuck in one genre of music.

Electric Shepherd - Review

Reviewed by Scott Thomas - Cash Box Magazine

I’m sitting here listening to this NEW Band called Electric Shepherd and I must say it only took a few bars of their music before I was hooked… I must confess that I am a product of the psychedelic 60′s and those tumultuous times of my early childhood. You know, the Civil Rights movement was happening, the Kent State Massacre, an unwanted war in Vietnam, the hippy movement and Woodstock, the Summer of Love, and lastly, the DOORS getting banned from playing music in major U.S. cities due to lewd acts on stage… Crazy times just as it is now… I guess the reason why I brought this up is because the music that I’m listening to now has taken me back that era in mind and spirit… Yes, a time of long ago when my older siblings were playing their Pink Floyd recordz and max volume… And yes… Let’s not forget about the incense, lava lamp and black light posters to help blow your mind even more…

If I were to put one finger on Electric Shepherd’s music, it would be music in the style of those bandz that came out of the Haight-Ashbury days. Such as bandz like Crosby Stills and Nash, Quick Silver Messenger Service, Jefferson Starship and the Grateful Dead just to name a few… The vibes on this CD will make your freak flag fly and then some (of course if there is any left on top). A few other rock groups that come to mind of today in this style of music are bands like Wolfmother, Ghostland Observatory, and The White Stripes. The music has that raw energy. I can tell you this… If Jim Morrison were alive, I’m sure he would approve…

Leila A – Music Review

Leila A., (pronounced Lay-lah) has a fresh sophisticated retro sound that makes you want for more!

When I first listened to the song Mustang Johnny I got this crazy 70’s or 80’s retro felling that washed over me, my first thought was that I had heard this song someplace in my not so distant past. For some strange reason it brought up memories of Bob Seger and the Cars and I’m not trying to date myself here! That had to be the cool retro sound that I was hearing, the music has sweet depth to it that shows there is a solid background to this artist’s music career. With it bluesy riffs and jazzy sound the little rock song can sing!

I had to hear more so I went to Leila’s MySpace Page and got my ears on a couple other tunes. “Cause Here I Am” was the next song I heard and I wasn’t disappointed. It was a softer sexier song with a sweet guitar playing tricky little licks in your ear. As the song moves on it gains depth and works it’s way around back to the start of its end. Very nice tune!

The last song was called “Colours Of Love” and it took on a sophisticated sound that mixed a jazzy yet kind of Spanish sound with a bunch of sex appeal, I could see Leila in a long black dress in a soft light sitting on a baby grand piano.

Out of the three songs I reviewed it was very clear to me that Leila comes from a musical background, it shows in the diversity of her music and the range of genre’s she covered.

Leila gets 5 stars and I would recommend this music to anyone that likes a sexy retro sound with depth.

Music Review - Emil Bishaw

I can defiantly hear future Top #40’s from this artist. The youth and vision he has is unstoppable.

After hearing hours of Emil Bishaw music interpreted by others on and off all afternoon. I was amazed of the flow of his music this young artist had. I never once wanted to just turn it off. It was exciting and yet had a story and great feeling of it’s own.

I can defiantly hear future Top #40’s from this artist. The youth and vision he has is unstoppable. The good looks help the hearts fall and the sound of is voice takes anyone to a safe place.

Vocal performance here is mind blowing and structured, Emil Bishaw delivers the lyrics with strength and nuance. This artist knows who he is and is willing to take risk to get there. When I say risk I also mean he can take his vocals to heights that some of us can only dream of.

The production of this album is wonderful, It takes you back to the days with reel to reel tapes on the floor and the producer comes in and puts all the puzzle together. With Emil Bishaw vocals and great production the young artist has nothing to fear.

I give Emil Bishaw 5 stars and the whole world is wanting a amazing voice like this young man.
