Biography:
Born into a musical family in Gilroy,
California, Greg first began studying classical
saxophone with William Trimble at San Jose State
University, who helped prepare him for the numerous
regional and state-wide honor bands which he
routinely participated in (including the Santa
Clara County Honor Band, NCBA All-Northern Honor
Band, and CBDA All-State Honor Band). While
attending UCLA on a scholarship awarded by the
American Youth Symphony, Greg studied with Douglas
Masek, one of the premier classical saxophonists
on the west coast. He was also fortunate enough
to have been a recipient of the Elaine Krown
Klein Fine Arts Scholarship, to have been one
of the winners of the Atwater-Kent All-Star
Concerto Competition, and to have had the privilege
to be able to take a lesson with Eric Marienthal.
Furthermore, Greg has recorded at Capitol Records,
participated in the Idyllwild Arts Summer festival,
taught music in Compton with the Music Partnership
Program, and performed in masterclasses with
Greg Banaszak and Gary Keller. Greg has just
received his B.A. in Saxophone Performance from
UCLA and is currently working towards his M.M.
in Music Performance. In addition to all of
the saxophonists who have profoundly influenced
him first hand, Greg has also been highly influenced
by the playing of David Sanborn, Dave Koz, Michael
Lington, Steve Cole, Warren Hill, and Gerald
Albright.
City
Lights, Greg's debut smooth jazz album, features
the saxophone-lead pop of Dave Koz, Michael
Lington and Steve Cole fused with the contemporary
alternative rock of Coldplay, Howie Day, Keane,
and Five for Fighting, with a hint of George
Winston and even Nickel Creek.
